Aloha. This year for Thanksgiving, the family went to the Big Island. We landed in Hilo Airport 6:30am via Hawaiian Airlines. Baby Kala'i did wonderful, being that was her first airplane ride. As Mama would say, "she did better than Mommy...lol" We picked up the van and started our day driving around Honokaa, Waimea, and Hawi. We stopped to pick up some Okazu from Hilo Lunch Shop. Their fried Ono was reeeeallly ono :). Then we stopped by Donnas Cookies to pick up some sweet treats. Then we traveled to Kalopa Park to relieve ourselves.
Finally, it was time to check into our resort in Honomu. A beautiful place with a huge pool and slide. Of course, that was a big no for me, but the niece and nephews had a blast. Not to mention the Boss had a kick sliding down the slide.
The next day was the main event. Dinner at The Rim at Volcano House. It is located in Halema'uma'u Crater. We did a quick purchase in their gift shop before being seated. We were waiting all day for our four-course meal. I ordered the Tenderloin as my first course, but the waitress came back and said they were all out, so I went with the other option...Hamachi. Boy did that no disappoint, it was ono.
The second course was even better, caprese salad. By then I was getting full, and we didn't start on the main course yet. We had three options to choose from. Turkey, Salmon, or Duck. You're thinking Turkey since it is Thanksgiving? Well not this year, I chose Duck. I don't eat Duck so I wanted to get the experience. But the star of the plate were the Truffle puree mashed potatoes. I'm a sucker for mashed potatoes and that was really good.
To end the night was our last course, number four. I had the chocolate mousse. It was that or cheesecake, which I'm not a big fan of. Everyone was so full and content as we sat back in our seats for the waitress to give mom the check.
Friday was a health day for me. I had to go to dialysis to get dialyzed. The other half of the group went to the beach. After we all went to watch a funny movie that was filmed in Hawaii, Next Goal Wins. Before the movie Boss and I did some shopping at some surf stores. Picked up some rad board shorts and two shirts.
Saturday was a whole new adventure. It was also the Boss and I cooking day for the family. We streamed live on Facebook cooking pancakes and sausage. The Boss took the lead on making the compote. Baby woke up congested. So we bundled her up because we were heading to Legacy Forest. It is a high elevation and the weather would be colder. We all piled up in a bus ATV. The ride was bumby but so worth the experience and personal tour from the workers. The main people who take care of the land and trees.

After the journey we did some shopping in Hilo Town. Had so many Hawaiian culture shops, more unique than what's on Oahu. I enjoyed the shops we visited like Aloha Grown, The Hawaiian Force, and some notable collectable shops.
Then it was time to head home and pack up since Sunday was an early morning to get to the airport. I'm going to miss the comfortable FIRM bed we had and the ice-cold air condition. I can still picture it in my head.
